Let’s play sports the way the planet will not be defeated.
Move in a Green Way is an international project with aim to directly improve the knowledge and skills of sport coaches, sportsmen and young people about sustainability in sport.

This project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union
Who we are
5 associations from 5 countries (Slovakia, Turkey, Lithuania, Czech Republic and Hungary) that care about a greener future for sport. We joined forces in the project Move in a Green Way to improve the knowledge and skills of sport coaches, sportsmen and young people about sustainability in sport by the project activities.
Why we do that
Sport is beneficial in many ways – makes us stronger and healthier, forms attitudes such as fair play, teach us teamwork, leadership, it helps people to keep away or get rid of addictions (drugs, technologies) and inactive lifestyle and much more.
Yet, it comes with consequences that go beyond the game as those individual actions are multiplied by millions and millions of people each year all around the world. The effects of sports upon environment can be classified as short term, long term, direct or indirect and all of these combine to generate its total ecological footprint. An enormous amount of trash is generated at sporting events, from packaging, plates, and bottles to food waste.
Resources like water and energy are used to power the games and to keep playing fields lush. Carbon emissions from travel to and from events by all stakeholders also factor into the calculation of consequences. The environmental impact of sports equipment is huge. Bats, helmets, balls, gloves, skin pads and other sports equipment is made primarily from plastics that are not easily recycled.
Our objectives
- to define ecological sustainability in sport by exchanging practises and researches
- to directly improve the knowledge and skills of target group about sustainable sport by organizing a training seminar and local workshops
- to identify specific sustainable ways and solutions in sport disciplines and activities gathered in a handbook which will serve as a tool for sport organizations
- to encourage and reduce environmental footprint by raising ecological awareness in sport by project activities
- to promote ecology as a way of active and healthy lifestyle within project activities
- to foster citizens engagement in sustainable sport (including those with fewer opportunities)
